Bamboo Construction Activities in Asia-Pacific Bamboo Areas
Since 1970s, series of industrial bamboos have been developed in Asia-Pacific Bamboo Area (APBA) for the construction market. However, the economic, social, and ecological impacts of the new bamboo varieties and the scientific solutions for sustainability still await discovery. For this, the chapter reviews the historical traditions and technical status of the bamboo industry in the APBA and evaluates its construction potentials. Based on this, the particularity of bamboo construction activities in APBA is summarized from a life cycle and industry-wide systematic perspective, which will help to promote a common understanding of the evaluation criteria.
