Pedestrian Movement and Access to Public Services, Mezitli-Mersin, Turkey
The study aims to evaluate pedestrian movement and access to public services in residential areas, which have been developed by plan decisions. In order to assess pedestrian movement in planned neighborhoods, the Mezitli district of Mersin was selected as the case study area. When the historical development of Mersin was examined, there were various urban patterns. The study evaluates equality and justice in public services in terms of pedestrian access. Then, the success of plan decisions was criticized to develop accurate strategies for similar cases.
This chapter is categorized into two sections. In the first section, a literature study is conducted on pedestrian movement and walkability. In the second section, the method is presented with a definition and main parameters. In the third section, after the features of the case study area are defined, the method is clarified by qualitative aspects. Finally, in the last section, an evaluation is made in terms of equality and justice in the provision of public services by plan decisions.
