NLO Coefficients of Polyenes: Size and Alternation Dependence
Abstract The static polarizability and second hyperpolarizability of N-site polyenes are found for noninteracting (Hückel) and interacting (Pariser-Parr-Pople) chains with alternating transfer integrals t(1 ± δ). Saturation with increasing N is shown to depend on δ > 0 and contributions from unlinked clusters are shown to cancel. Reduced NLO coefficients are introduced to compare electron-electron correlations in cuantum cell models with identical optical gaps Eg, rather than identical δ.
