Efficiency Improvement of Canal Top Solar Photovoltaic Power Plant with Reflectors
The wide availability, clean and non-polluting nature makes solar energy, an important renewable energy source for the future. A large area of land free from shading is an important requisite for solar installation. Canal top project implemented in Gujarat presented a new approach for solar panel installation utilizing canal space. The reduction in evaporation of water from canal due to the canal top construction makes this idea more promising. This project studies the scope of providing reflectors in the inter-array space of the canal top Solar photovoltaic plant. The energy generated from these projects can be further increased by adding reflectors in the inter-array space of canal top projects. This, in turn, reduces the water loss through inter-array spacing. The temperature rise with the incorporation of reflectors has been analysed and a design improvement to minimize the higher temperature rise during peak irradiation time is also proposed. The performance and temperature studies with these new arrangements are compared in this paper.
