A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
Nomad Bamboo Pavilion
Due to its environmental sustainability and high structural performances, bamboo is widely used in many engineering practices. This paper introduces a new bamboo-based design and construction system for the pavilion, which is named Nomad Bamboo Pavilion because of its portable and detachable features. The pavilion can be a moveable home, office, shop, etc. The main structure can be built by only one person with one screwdriver and the builder can use his/her hands to hang bamboo boards for walls, windows, and doors. The roof is constructed with the way of teeing round bamboo culms as tiles on the purlins. The pavilion can also be taken apart and packed up conveniently. Through modern architecture design, we bring the lost technique back and hope this construction system would give an example of the diversity of building technology to the industrialized world.
