Cable Car – Reconstructed Infrastructure for Inadequate Urbanization of Trebević
Trebević, the mountain that rises above Sarajevo, has long been recognized as a key element of the city's natural and cultural identity. This paper deals with the double role of Trebević: as a green oasis that provides recreation, rest and biological diversity, and as an area that faces the challenges of contemporary urbanization. The central point of the analysis is the reconstruction of the cable car in 2018, which symbolizes the renewed connection of the mountain with the urban center, but at the same time, raises concerns about the uncontrolled construction and degradation of the natural landscape. Through a historical review of planning purposes, from the Olympic heritage to recent urban projects, the paper investigates how Trebević reflects broader socioeconomic changes in Bosnian society. Analyzing current trends and projects, the work identifies key factors that contribute to the current dynamic between the natural values of Trebević and the urban development of Sarajevo. Through the discussion of potential solutions, the paper emphasizes the importance of an integral approach in planning and management, which would ensure the sustainable development and preservation of the natural treasures of Trebević. Through this approach, the paper proposes strategies that could enable the harmonious coexistence of natural and urbanized spaces, and promotes the development of policies that would support sustainable interaction between the city and the mountain, preserving Trebević for future generations as a vital green oasis on the doorstep of Sarajevo.
