Soil Stabilisation
The soils are used for the construction of roads, pavements, retaining structuresStructure such as bunds, tanks and dams and for the buildingsBuildings. The building productsBuilding product especially used for superstructure are expected to possess certain desirable engineering properties (strength, low permeability, less erosion, low swellingSwellingand shrinkageShrinkage characteristics, moisture buffering, etc.). There is a need for soil stabilisation to improve the strength and durability characteristics of earthen products. This chapter is focused on fundamentals of soil stabilisation techniques, methods of soil compaction and static compaction of soils. The usefulness of static soil compaction process in the machine design for the production of compressed earth blocks has been discussed in greater detail. Also, the chapter deals with different types of stabilisation techniques used in the compressed earth block and rammed earth production.
