DESIGN AND ANALYSIS OF INTERCEPTOR DRAINS—EFFECT OF PARAMETERS
Analytical solution obtained by Goyal (1998) for estimation of seepage from canal with symmetrically placed interceptor drains and natural drainages, founded on infinite pervious soil medium has been utilized to develop nomographs and to determine the effects of various non-dimensional ratios of parameters such as canal width, distance between canal and natural drainage, depth of drainage below canal level, location and width of interceptor drains on seepage discharges and phreatic surface. It is found that canal seepage increases with increase in the level differences of canal and drains and decreases with increase in the distances of the interceptor or main drainage. Introduction of interceptor drain leads to significant lowering of phreatic surface, specially near the drain. Methodology to be used for the design of interceptor drain is presented.
