A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
Reviewing the role of CIB commission W23A, the author discusses some of the commission's significant findings on the risk of progressive collapse of wall-panel buildings and the resistance of vertical joints in shear walls. But he explains also newer ventures by the commission, such as the drafting of a model code on masonry structures—part of an integrated international effort—and the study of the structural aspects of urban renewal.
