Modelling of Public Building Evacuation Processes
The need for effective evacuation of any building is of great importance in cases of emergency and risk. In this paper, a mathematical approach is developed and presented for the purpose of modelling and analyzing the evacuation process of public buildings. Total evacuation time as well as the risk of evacuees under different evacuation routings and conditions has been evaluated. Important aspects related to the nature of public buildings in case of emergency, concepts and standards related to travel distance, unit width, evacuation rate, and speed of movement are considered. Queuing network theory is the tool that has been used to model the situation. Consequently, performance analysis of the evacuation process has been carried out for some real cases. The results could be useful in the risk assessment for safe egress design of public buildings.
