Vibrations in tall cylindrical structures
Very tall cylindrical structures - whether they be TV masts, or lofty chimneys provided for anti-pollution purposes - can be affected not only by high winds but by low winds blowing at uniform velocity sufficient to set up resonance in the structure. The author of this review of the calculations involved works at the Institute of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics of the Czechoslovak Science Academy.
