Lime blowing in bricks
The problem of lime bursting in brick manufacture is acute in some parts of India and elsewhere — fired bricks turn into powder when exposed to the atmosphere, due to the presence of lime particles. Work at the Central Building Research Institute, Roorkee, has concentrated on the mechanism by which chlorides can prevent this.
