The products that we surround ourselves with satisfy numerous needs - not all are utilitarian. If we are what we wear, then we are what we surround ourselves with. Products can offer significant symbolic meaning. A product's ‘personality’ can significantly influence its appeal. If the target purchaser does not perceive the product to have been designed for them, then psychological barriers may develop that will prevent purchase, use and/or user-product bonding. Product personality is an area that blends psychology and design together to help build designer-user empathy.
