In this paper, we present the technique of gammametry and explain its principle of functioning. It lets us measure the local variations of mass density of the materials which are function of their microstructure and the water content inside. We present some examples of using this technique. It allows us to follow the movement of water in materials when the solid phase can be considered as invariable and hence to deduce their transport properties. We have also used this technique to study the influence of the nature of aggregate on the cement paste which is in contact with it.
