Optimisation of the mass and damping ratio of the tuned mass damper
Tuned Mass Damper (TMD) is one of the passive control approaches for structures which provides a significant reduction of structure response. Optimising the design parameters of the TMD is always a challenge in this field. In the present study, based on the equation of structure energy balance for a Single-Degree-of-Freedom (SDOF) model, a wise method has been developed. It finds the optimum parameters of the damper that reduce the maximum response of the system under harmonic and earthquake base accelerations. Decent agreement between the results of the present study and previous ones shows the validity of this method.
