Sur la longueur de flambement d'un élément de structure
For the determination of the effective length lk of a structure element, the methodologies proposed to engineers derive from two approaches. The first one uses the insulation of the element and the second uses the global buckling of the structure. These approaches may lead to very distant values. This divergence has even led to aparadox. As a definition of lk, we propose to fix the one that refers to the ideal case of the isolated beam under a compressive axial force and to handle its computation to the second order. Our formulation leads to a method devoted to structural analysis softs for a systematical computation of lk. Furthermore, we propose a simplified method, which avoids the insulation of the element and leads to an approximation of lk. For a given structure loading, this simplified method uses the global buckling of the structure in a direction of a compressive axial force localized on the element. The two methods are compared through the analysis of a culumn of a portal under various configurations (connections and loadings).
