The impact of the banking system on regional analyses

This paper examines the role of the banking system and financial markets on the expansion and contraction of the regional economy. It is particularly focused on the multiplier process and how the fractional reserve process used by banks to control the supply of loanable funds affects the final disposition of regional income under various circumstances. Both the reserve and monetary base multipliers are presented within a regional contest and a regional income multiplier is derived which includes the banking sector.
