A water and energy management system monitors andd isplays flows of water and steam to and from ten production units at UCC's Ponce complex; signals tripout emergencies for steam generators and consumer units; and recommends steam consumption cutback schedules as required. Resultant benefits include fuel savings due to tighter steam management, reduced water losses due to better boiler feedwater and condensate management, and operator-guided minimization of production downtime. The system should pay for itself in less than one year.
