Conceptual modeling of electro-hydraulic active control of a mini-pantograph/fixed rail sliding contact current collector
The method of current collection by a mini-pantograph which forms a sliding electrical contact with a fixed power rail is evaluated for use on a guided vehicle transit system. A brief introduction is given to the physical constraints to current collection and the typical pantograph designs. From this background, the conceptual modeling of the electro-hydraulic actively controlled mini-pantograph used in this analysis is described. The basic control, hydraulic and mechanical elements are described with consideration given to the inherent performance limitations of each element. A summary is given of the mathematical model developed to analyze the dynamic collector performance, including the parameter values, schematic drawing, transfer function block diagram and computer simulation results. Finally, conclusions are made from the computer simulation results which evaluate this conceptual model of actively controlled current collection; and a perspective on further research is discussed.
