Flame retardant cable sheath compound
Approximately 89.000 customers were subjected to interruption of telecommunication service for a lengthy period of time after the November 1984 cable tunnel fire in Setagaya, Tokyo. To prevent the recurrence of such a calamity, NTT has developed a flame retardant compound for tunnel cable sheath. It consists of an ethylene-ethyl acrylate copolymer, and nonhalogenated retardant additives and other components. It has good flame retardancy and shows excellent characteristics with regard to smoke generation. It is a halogen-free material. It, moreover, has good mechanical properties.
