As a means against the fire of cable lines there is a move to use flame-retardant cables having a fire-checking property found acceptable in a burning test in which many lengths of the cable laid on a tray are burned to determine their capability to check the spread of fire. To meet this requirement, 'DAN-FLAME', a cable sheathed with a flame-retardant material which has passed the vertical tray burning test specified in IEEE Std. 383 and is self-extinguishable even in an atmosphere having a high oxygen content of 30% is developed. DAN-FLAME is of two types, one for atomic power plants which is flame retardant not only in the sheath but also in the insulating and other auxiliary materials and the other for general users which has a flame-retardant sheath.
