A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
Because of the increasing need for water, food and energy, the number and size of dams is growing, although not at the same rate as ten years ago. Many more dam sites are being considered, especially in large mountainous areas and in the vast continents of developing countries. If these sites are built on, the number of dams in the world could triple; yet the percentage of failures is falling and careful design, construction and instrumentation is likely to reduce this failure rate even further.
