Experiences with concrete volute pumps
Over the last thirty years in more than 55 Dutch pumping stations and at 15 locations abroad concrete volute pumps have been installed by the authors company: 'An experience which is almost unique'. The simple construction of the concrete volute pump is explained and it is shown that for many large flow duties this design is a justifiable alternative to more conventional wet or dry pit pump concepts. The construction and hydraulic design of the pump in various alternative arrangements are based on laboratory model tests and field experiences. A review of the experiences obtained from three different applications is given and the performance characteristics are presented.
