High early strength and high chemical resistance slag cement
A slag cement, containing about 70 % blast furnace slag, mechano-chemically activated, has been industrially produced. Results of laboratory investigations indicate the special benefits of these blast furnace slag cements. Concretes made with this cement, in fact, can be used successfully in lieu of concretes made with rapid hardening Portland cement, sulphate resistance Portland cement and low alkali Portland cement. Moreover, in spite of Portland cement, slag cement combines a high binding capacity of chlorides, that are known to be the most dangerous aggressive agents towards the steel passivity, with an improved resistance to water leaching. On the other hand, the use of this slag cement, finally, carries marked energy advantages hard to assess but certainly considerable.
