The issue of how to make complete and rational use of steel slag from the production is in urgent need to be solved in the trade of iron and steel. Guodian iron ore of Jinan Iron and Steel Company has made great achievements in comprehensive utilization and development of slag by science and technology as well as the superiority of the wide region of the iron ore. The effective factors of calcium, iron, vanadium, etc, were found in the steel slag by analyzing slag, which can return to sinter as burden. Calcium oxide can replace limestone fines using for sintering fluxes, and all-iron replace iron powder. The moderate content of SiO2 is an active slag with higher basicity and a major raw material of producing steel slag cements. Steel slag powder can mix with a small amount of steel slag cements to produce non-burnt bricks. After twelve years of study by Guodian iron ore of Jinan iron and steel works the work of comprehensive utilization of steel slag is expanding gradually to obtain better social and economical benefits. At present, the products of comprehensive utilization of steel slag have changed from the single large steel scrap into a series of products, such as less than 500 - 500 mm specifications of slag blocks, 12 - 15 mm blocks, 12 mm low grade of slag steel powder, iron-bearing grade of about 70 % of magnetic dressing steel slag iron fine powder, steel slag cements, sintering fluxes, and non-burnt bricks etc, which becoming an important economic mainstay. Only based on the analysis of steel slag treatment and utilization of 1995, the 362400 tons steel slags were treated all the year round together, and recovering all kinds of slags of 50400 tons, the direct income of 21236000 yuan of comprehensive utilization of slag and dry slag was achieved and meanwhile, realizing the internal profits of 8092700 yuan.
