Comparison of gunned, cast, and press-formed low cement wet gunning mixes
The effect of quick-setting agent on the mechanical properties of a low cement wet gunning mix was investigated by comparing gunning, press-forming, and casting methods. 1) The mechanical properties of the gunned specimens was heavily affected by adding the quick-setting agent, that is, lowering the porosity (in the measuring range of the pore size distribution measuring instrument), raising the overall porosity of the specimens, lowering the strength, and lowering the Weibull modulus (m). 2) The porosity and strength of gunned specimens with no quick-setting agent were lower than the cast specimens. 3) There is no significant difference in the pore size distribution, porosity and modulus of rupture between the press-formed and gunned specimens.
