High-temperature, non-destructive evaluation of calcium aluminate-cement castables
Calcium aluminate castables made of Secar 71 or of synthetic CA mixed with submicrometer alumina and containing tabular alumina were investigated using non-destructive measurement of Young's modulus and synchrotron radiation-energy dispersive diffraction in the temperature range from 20 deg C to 1600 deg C. Both techniques appear to complement each other to follow and understand conversion and decomposition of hydrates, sintering phenomena, and high-temperature reactions.
