A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
Geotextile tubes are used for groins, coastal protection, flood protection, beach restoration and dewatering of contaminated materials. The dimensioning of stacked geotextile tubes still embodies problems to be solved. In this article calculation methods are compared. For the fields of consolidation and stacking, finite element models are presented to study the stress and load distribution in such tube constructions. Further design diagrams to measure the most important design parameters for the filling process are presented. There is litte knowledge about the change of shape and loads during the consolidation process and the stacking of tubes. Therefore the finite element models presented here help to describe these load cases. The study verifies the assumption that the largest tension forces occur during the filling process. A third model will describe the dewatering process and the strains and stresses that occur during the consolidation stage. The aim of the total modelling will be first to calculate the deformation and stresses caused by the consolidation and then to use these results as initial values for the load analysis.
