Fast curing, phenolic prepreg with competitive fire performance, for use in interior panels
The development of a new, fast-curing, phenolic prepreg, that meets the Fire, Smoke, and Toxicity (FST) regulations for aircraft interior panels is presented. The phenolic prepreg developed, HexPly M41, can be cured faster then standard phenolic prepregs over a wide range of processing temperatures. This increased reactivity does not compromise the overall performance in terms of mechanical and flammability properties and prepreg shelf life. HexPly M41 can be produced with a range of tack and drape required by different applications, such as: side wall, floor, ceiling, galley and toilet panels. The mechanical and fire performance of the system are exemplified and discussed. The controlled flow of the matrix, which ensures a good surface finish, is outlined. Emphasis is also given to the properties that separate this system from existing phenolic-based prepregs.
