Structure borne sound from waste water installations in buildings
The laboratory characterization of waste water installations is the subject of draft European standard prEN 14366 where both the airborne sound directly radiated by the pipe and the structure borne sound mechanically transmitted through clamps to a supporting wall, are considered. Three quantities are obtained: two sound levels (airborne and structure borne sound) as well as a "structural sensitivity" of the test wall, used to normalize the structure borne sound level obtained with respect to the acoustic properties of the wall. Moreover, the airborne sound and structure borne sound transmitted through the building are also considered in this paper and determined using a power flow method, which is the work item of European group TC126/WG2 AHG2 ; the inputs (power levels) are estimated from the laboratory quantities described above. Practical examples of PVC pipes in buildings are given.
