Carbon-bonded refractories - characterisation of interaction between binder and graphite
For manufacturing of carbon bonded refractories different organic binders are used. By firing under reducing atmosphere the organic structure of binders changed into a carbon bond. Bulk density and porosity are the most used characteristics of products. Focused on porosity, emerged due to the manufacturing process and structural change of binders from green state into residual carbon, characteristic of carbon bonding is presented on samples containing 0 to 16 % graphite. Furthermore, an overview of the recent developments of carbon bonding technologies is given.
