A novel high performance binder for refractories
The continuous increase in energy costs and CO2 emissions is the driving force behind the search for possebilities to rduce the ovcall energy consumption. This problem is of great importance also for the refractory industry. Due to the high firing temperatues, an immense amount of enerey is consumed in this industry. Against this backgroundt the decrease of the firing temperature is one of the major challenges for modern refractory production technology. One possible approach may be the use of a new binder system that leads to a high binding-strength over the whole temperature range that is of relevance for the manufactoring and application of refractories. In this paper recent results of an ongoing investigation program dealing with the development of such binder systems are presented.
