A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
An easy to use concrete floor care system was developed by Interpolymer to be used in their factory floors. A 2 step system was used: a sealer and a top coat based on the Syntran products. Syntran 1671 is a highly cross linked acrylic copolymer which can be formulated with conventional raw materials into a concrete sealer. Syntran U3131 was chosen as the polyurethan dispersion for its extreme durability. Sealers based on Syntran 1671 are far superior to conventional styrene/acrylate sealers with respect to water resistance, stain resistance, chemical resistance and film toughness. The system is completed with the application of an especially formulated top coat F-13-004-13, based on Syntran 1220 which provides the traffic surface. The static coefficient of friction is properly adjusted by addition of right combination of wax components in the formulation. With Syntran 1671 in combination with Syntran U3131 as a sealer, and Syntran 1220 as a top coat, the formulator can produce a quality concrete floor care system that is both cost effective and VOC compliant. The system was applied both on the production and the ware house floors. The floor consisted of concrete that was pretreated by machines to make the floor density as high as possible. The system was applied using floor mops. The temperature of the room and the floor was 15 deg C, and the R.H. was around 60 %. In between every coat, the adhesion of the first coat to the concrete was checked and the intercoat adhesion between the following layers by using a TESA tape. It was possible to apply a system of 2 sealer coats and 3 top coats in one day.
