External cathodic protection of concrete pad-mounted aboveground storage tanks
Depending on the site conditions and environmental corrosivity, the concrete pad-mounted storage tanks may be subjected to external corrosion of the bottom plates. CP can sufficiently decrease the corrosion rate. The feasibility of using ICCP to protect concrete pad-mounted storage tanks can be evaluated by setting up a temporary CP system. Interpreting test results and assessing site conditions are more useful than theoretical reasoning. Since any unprotected structure may be subjected to heavy corrosion in areas where CP is present, reinforcing steel bars in concrete pads should be cathodically protected through electrical bonding with tank plates.
