Improving Geomembrane Installations and CQA through Leak Location Surveys
Leak location surveys have been widely used in finding leaks in geomembrane liners for more than 25 years. The results from these leak location surveys using the electrical methods described in ASTM Standard D6747 have revealed beneficial information as to the cause of the leaks found and what can be done to prevent them in future installations. Leak location survey records have therefore revealed drastic improvements in the subsequent installation of geomembranes, specifically when the same client, geomembrane and geomembrane installer are used. Geomembrane leak location surveys are instrumental for increasing the quality of geomembrane installations for landfills and surface impoundments. It is critical to use non-destructive leak location methods on every geomembrane installation if we are to attain the ultimate goal of coming as close to zero leakage as possible.
