Rheology of fresh concrete
Much is known about the rheology of fluids, including particulate suspensions. Recent studies of cement paste using specialized rheological techniques have provided considerable information about the relationships between flow behavior and microstructure, including the effects of hydration on yield stress. Although concrete workability is routinely characterized using the slump test, rheometers are available that provide a complete characterization of flow behavior, although not always in terms of fundamental rheological parameters. Many technological advantages are provided by full characterization of flow behavior In particular, concrete rheology provides access to the large body of knowledge concerning the flow behavior of suspensions, including cement paste.
