Spark detection under short-circuit testing conditions
The author addresses the question of the detectability of sparks emitted by electrical apparatus which have a potential for fire ignition. The author discusses the use of videography and scorch marks to paper sheets (ground sheet method) for the measurement of fire hazard due to incandescent emissions from electrical apparatus. The use of video methods has proved convenient when a proper control of the exposures used and the possible loss of resolution for small particles, has been taken into account. The ground sheet method has also proved practical, once the test has been properly constructed.
