Anaerobic gas fuel cell shows promise
Fuel cell technology, although relatively new to the power generation industry, is a well proven technology. A 200 kW demonstration power project in New York State at the Yonkers waste water treatment plant began start-up in April 1997 and uses anaerobic digester gas as a fuel. The project has so far proved successful and could pave the way for similar projects in the deregulated US power market. Plant operation is discussed.
