Acciai inox duplex e austenitici: loro impiego nelle armature del calcestruzzo per una migliore resistenza alla corrosione
The corrosion of reinforcing steel in concrete structures is a problem, particularly in chloride environments (de-icing salt, marine location). Stainless steel reinforcing is providing a solution in many situations. Among the different stainless steel grades, duplex steel can allow economical and technical advantages. The behaviour of reinforced concrete elements with duplex and austenitic steel grades in chloride environment and between -27 and +60 deg C has been studied and compared with a commonly used unalloyed steel. The obtained results demonstrate an equivalent and good behaviour of the duplex steel grades and the austenitic grade 1.4404, while the austenitic grades 1.4301 and 1.4306 does not show enough corrosion resistance to chlorides. The unalloyed steel has very low corrosion resistance. Comparing the tensile strength of deformed steels to plain round ones, it appears that the austenitic grades 1.4301 and 1.4306 have high tendency to strain hardening, what means that their bending properties will be reduced and their working up as reinforcing bar is difficult.
