Building and testing of probes for non destuctive characterization by eddy current of cementation coating steels
The electromagnetic properties of steels depend on their composition, their microstructures and applied stresses. It is therefore natural to try to use magnetic and electrical parameters of steels to evaluate their microstructure. The sensitivity to defects and other control parameters can be improved by optimizing the choice of the probe. It appears, after study of different types of probes (ferritic, wild steel insulator) with different geometries (dish, conical, ...), necessary to underline that the success of a feasibility research, largely depends on a suitable definition of measure collectors, so that they are adapted to the considered problem. A software has been elaborated allowing the automation of this control and the reconstitution of 2D and 3D images of the controlled samples. The realized experiments have shown the large possibilities of analysis by the eddy current methods. They allow, besides the verification of the coating and the determination of its thickness, to give an overview on the percentage of the main chemical components of the controlled samples coating by a deepened processing.
