Verbundene Mikroporosität in Kristallingesteinen : Fallstudie Felslabor Grimsel
The necessity of depositing radioactive wastes and other toxic substances sealed off from the biosphere, led to the idea of the creation of underground disposal sites in suitable geological formations, e.g. granite and gneiss complexes. Hydraulic pathways are a critical consideration in a safety assessment for locating geological repositories, because they provide the means for connecting to the biosphere. These include faults and fractures as well as the matrix porosity, which in crystalline rocks is dominated by microcracks. The connected in-situ microcracks have a large influence on the retardation characteristics of the host rock. In particular, the diffusion of nuclides from a water-bearing fracture into the pore spaces of the surrounding rock matrix, leads to a delay of the nuclide transport as well as to the degradation of the maximum concentration of the pollutants in the fault zone. Samples examined in the study originate from the Grimsel Test Site (Aarmassiv, Switzerland) ...
