Control of Free Residual Chlorine By Ammoniation
This article discusses the dechlorinations of free chlorine residuals in water by controlled ammoniation, which has been successfully accomplished on a continuous‐operation basis at the Brantford, Ontario, filtration plant since Nov. 26, 1962. The experimental procedure for dechlorinations with NH3 were conducted in a similar manner to a free‐residual chlorine series with this difference: in a free‐residual chlorine series, increments of HOCI are added in order to remove NH3; whereas, in the experimental dechlorinations HOCI was already present, and NH3 was added to remove it. A discussion by Arthur T. Palin of Newcastle and Gateshead Water Company, Newcastle‐Upon‐Tyne, United Kingdom is included in the article.
