General acceptability criteria
Abstract: The information contained in this Appendix comprises a comprehensive checklist that can be used as an easy‐reference guide and aide‐mémoire when undertaking access audits.
The checklist requires simple ‘yes/no’ responses to questions that cover the more general access issues that should always be considered in an audit and those that are relevant to meet the needs of specific user groups.
Where particular access issues are identified which can significantly affect the accessibility and usability of a building or space, those completing the checklist are directed to specific additional guidance, standards or regulations such as other chapters in the Access Manual, BS 8300 or the Approved Documents to Part M and Part K of the Building Regulations.
The checklist identifies where satisfactory provision is in place or where work is needed. This may be with respect to physical alterations or changes in terms of practices, policies or management procedures.
