Methods of Corrosion Monitoring
Multiple numbers of materials such as metallic structure are utilized in construction of large buildings that have to work in corrosive environments may encounter corrosion. Because it is unimaginable to hamper deterioration of metals used by growing population as they are thermodynamically fickle in extreme environments. As corrosion is inevitable process, by knowing the fact we have to know the life longevity, efficiency of used structures in certain aggressive conditions. So corrosion monitoring is done for complete removal, repair, or replacement of materials. It attributes to the observing, probing, and appraising the modification of materials such as concrete, metals, glass, ceramic, and so on. Corrosion monitoring includes extensive class of techniques that involve calculating, regulating, and mollifying corrosion. The indispensable benefit of enforcing these monitoring methods is to expose previous cautioning of destruction. In the course of time, some conventional methods like visual and macroscopic measurements like gravimetric analysis were used. These could not provide perceptible knowledge relating degree of corrosion. Consequently, in recent senescence, these are recouped by hasty electrochemical techniques. In this chapter, diverse corrosion monitoring techniques, which can be employed to keep an eye on recurrence of corrosion, will be discussed in detailed manner.
