This chapter explains the importance of site investigation and some of the more common types of investigation that are available. Included in the chapter are various methods of field survey work and site investigation techniques including boreholes, trenches, geophysics, gravity surveys and magnetic surveys, electromagnetic surveys, electrical surveys, ground probing radar and seismic refraction and reflection surveys.
