Contemporary Issues Deriving from Change
The two subjects that are the most important to the immediate future of landscape representation have been brought about by constant change. On the one hand, the understanding of nature as something in constant change; on the other hand, the present acceleration of change due to human‐related effects on the earth and its atmosphere. Computing and hybridising of different data from different fields is at the forefront of creating a new language that can speak to constant change. Computing can generate a new language, but this should not imply that its representation will be through computing only. The embers of Arcadia glow through the ashes and reappear now in various guises, such as false paradises, that should be derided and eliminated. The Arcadian image, therefore, survives as a reversal of its earlier assumptions or as a critique of them.
