Deep Foundations – Piles, Drilled Piers, Caissons and Pile‐Raft Systems
This chapter presents the engineering aspects of deep foundations (i.e., piles, drilled piers, caissons, pile‐raft systems). Types and functions of piles, design parameters such as length diameter, and the assessment of pile load capacity are explained. Dynamic and static methods are used to determine the pile capacity (for vertical as well as lateral loads), while pile load tests and correlation with other field tests are also summarized in this chapter. You will also find the settlement analysis of pile foundations, design and construction details of drilled piers, caissons (nondrilled piers) and pile‐raft systems being discussed, together with several examples presented at the end of the chapter.
