Process selection: Membrane versus granular media filtration
This article discusses an approach to process selection that provides an objective evaluation of the project‐specific quantitatively measurable benefits and life‐cycle costs of a wide range of treatment alternatives, while eliminating qualitative biases to the greatest practical extent. This approach to process selection is applied to granular media filtration vs membrane filtration and in summary, both are considered valuable unit processes for addressing water treatment challenges.
