Effects of Particle Detachment in Granular‐Media Filtration
A laser‐based particle size analyzer was used to characterize trends in particle size distribution through conventional water treatment and through in‐line filtration. Review of the literature on particle detachment and filter pore flocculation and of data from the particle size distribution experiments led to the development of a conceptual filtration model, which incorporated particle attachment and detachment, as well as preferential tube (wormhole) flow in the filter bed.
