Achieving Sustainable Water Infrastructure
This article addresses the need for utilities to focus on infrastructure sustainability to avoid a “perfect storm” that is brewing from infrastructure needs related to growth, reaching the end of its useful life, and achieving public health protection goals. It discusses six utility action areas related to achieving sustainability that include: clarity regarding level of service, operational efficiency, asset management, source water protection, utility right‐sizing and institutional structure, and full‐cost pricing.
